Pizza Trouble
Funny story from The Age this morning:
Richard Forbes' hard-luck story takes some topping - 16 years after bouncing a cheque for a pizza he found himself dragged in front of a judge in New Zealand, with no idea what his crime was.
Melbourne resident, Forbes, 38, spent several hours in a police cell in Wellington yesterday over a long-forgotten takeaway treat.
He had moved to Australia in 1992 and was back in New Zealand to give part of his liver to his mother in a transplant operation in Auckland next week.
But early yesterday in Wellington, a friend of Forbes had a run-in with police - which Forbes helped to quell - and an officer had asked to see his identification.
A check revealed an outstanding arrest warrant from 1992.
After several hours in the police cells, Forbes was led into Wellington District Court still not knowing what it was he was supposed to have done.
The Melbourne storeman had been back to New Zealand many times over the years and the warrant had never been mentioned.
In court he was told that his sin was the long-forgotten "bounced" $10 cheque for the pizza.
Forbes pleaded guilty to using a cheque dishonestly and was convicted and discharged.
"Pizzas haven't gone up much in price, have they?" Judge Bruce Davidson said

Jasmine Inn, Yarraville - Not Recommended
This was a few months ago, but my wife's memory is crystal clear:
Fish Cakes - best guess is that they are Home Brand frozen fish cakes from the supermarket, cut into quarters
Nasi Goreng - the worst my wife has ever tasted, and she has eaten this dish at least 100 times, in Asia and Melbourne restaurants
Beef Rendang - the rice was passable, but the beef was like old boot leather
The place was full, but we are wondering if this is a place trading on its former glory, and in an effort to cut costs has reduced the food quality...
Another bad review is here.
