It's
too much to expect your average PC user (or even a veteran user like me), to
-
keep their PC free of viruses & trojans
- safe from intruders &
keyloggers
- backed-up in case of hard drive failure
AND
at the same time
- surf the net casually
- download free software
- visit
porn sites
- view email attachments
- play games
So here's
a workaround:
Massively Secure PC Box (MSPB)
Every home has at least
2 PCs. One is the same one they have always used, and the other is a Massively
Secure PC Box:
- Just a screen, box, keyboard & mouse
- No
optical drive, no USB, no firewire, no WiFi
- Hard-wired to the internet
via ADSL or Cable
It is used for very specific uses:
- Banking
- Bill
paying
- Voting
- Call it a Personal, Secure
Dumb Terminal if you want...
Features that make it viable:
- Your
bank supplies it to you at a low price
- Log in to it just like you would
an Automatic Teller Machine
- It has a unique fixed address (IP address
or whatever works best)
- The unique address also works as an email address
- Firmware
and software upgrades happen automatically in the background
When
the user joins a new bank, or agrees to be billed for a service:
- They
give the bank or service their unique address, as well as a Service Pin
- They
log in to their MSPM using their user PIN, fingerprint or whatever
- There
is an email from the bank or service
- They click on OK within the email
-
A secure relationship is made
When a bill is due, or a transaction
is made:
- The user is informed by regular email, text message or whatever
- They
log in to their MSPM to check the transaction or authorize the bill payment
- ...or
vote
And it is never used for anything else!
