Encounters with Famous Folk*

Shook hands and took a photo of David Bowie in downtown Auckland during the Glass Spider tour - I pounced on his silent car (limo) that slept at traffic lights. Interestingly a woman who I was romantically attached to at a later date also met him that day....

Ed Harcourt had his first ever Melbourne concert at the Evelyn. After the gig I had a beer or 3 with him, his manager and Abi Tucker (who I'd stood next to during the gig).

Mark Eitzel also played at the Evelyn. I had a few drinks with him after (in retrospect I think his were non-alcoholic, because he had reformed??) and I think he hit on me (which I didn't like) but my memory is well blurry. pics (not by me)

Madonna when she was on Broadway, I was living a block away. A couple of times I stood outside the theater and took photos of her arriving - close enough to touch her, but the bouncers were kinda big and mean looking.

Supergrass - walked past them once in St Kilda, and once on the stairs at the Lounge on Swanston St.

Nick Cave - stood directly in front of him in the queue at the Classic Cinema in Elsternwick. He came into the same movie (Finding Nemo I think...), sat directly in front of us, and got up and left after 10 minutes. Much taller than I expected...

Lenny Henry - sat directly behind him at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival. Loudest laugh I have ever heard.

Hall and Oates - down the side of Radio City in New York, nobody else about. I swear they were holding hands.

Sonic Youth - after a gig at CBGBs in NewYork (not them playing), I stood next to them outside waiting for a pause in the rain - I didn't have the nerve to talk to them, they were as far cool as I was not.

The Bats - got invited to watch them play live at a radio station, also New York

* contrary to opinions of friends, family and wife, I'm not obsessed with famous folk, I just find their situation very intriguing...
